Bacterial vaginosis

Think: "Take a Whiff and get some Clue of Fishy odour!"

  • On Whiff test the vaginal discharge gives a Fishy (amine) odour
  • Clue cells are seen on microscopy

 

Whiff test: A drop of vaginal discharge is mixed with 10% potassium hydroxide solution and the odour is assessed.

Clue cells: These are the epithelial cells stippled with the bacteria and are diagnostic of Bacterial vaginosis.
